| A burst of water that is rapidly ejected from a hot spring is called a geyser. Hot springs are located in only a few places on Earth. Geysers usually occur on sites near volcanic activity. Surface water reaches down into the Earth thousands of feet. When the water contacts hot rocks, it boils, pressurizes and then bursts out from the Earth’s surface. A geyser is a hot spray of water and steam. One of the most well known geysers in the US is at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming called Old Faithful. |
